Abgrid Geogrid

Abgrid biaxial geogrid can be used in a wide range of civil engineering applications such as basal reinforcement, ground stabilisation, aggregate reduction, piling platforms and foundation engineering in paved and unpaved roads and temporary works.

Grid structure provides soil reinforcement for all civil engineering projects including environmental, infrastructure and marine applications.

Applications

  • Railway and Highway base course reinforcement
  • Steep sided soil embankments
  • Slope stabilisation
  • Retaining walls
  • Working platforms
  • Void spanning
  • Sloping green roof applications in combination with Eosaweb

Benefits

  • Easy to handle
  • Reduces sub-base thickness
  • Reduces site vehicle traffic
  • Minimises surface rutting

Abgrid geogrid is manufactured from extruded polypropylene which is then punched and drawn to form a monolithic geogrid with strength in two planes (biaxial).

The combination of ribs and the corresponding nodes within the geogrid allows loads to be transferred into the geogrid structure, whilst allowing a positive interlock of the reinforced materials through the apertures of the geogrid.

Abgrid biaxial geogrid offers high tensile stiffness at low strains combined with excellent resistance against damage occurring to the geogrid during the construction process or from environmental exposure.

Abgrid biaxial geogrid offers savings across the project and is quick and simple to install. The use of Abgrid geogrid also facilitates a reduction in the required fill.

Road Foundation Design using CD225

ABG Geogrid ranges provide a stabilisation design solution according to the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) document CD 225 revision 1 (2020), clause 2.7, Note 2: “Options for improvement of the subgrade include excavation and replacing between 500 to 1,000 mm of the soft subgrade with granular fill, mechanical stabilisation (geogrids and/or geotextiles) and soil stabilisation”.

ABG can design a stabilised foundation solution to compensate for lower CBR strength values (i.e. less than 2.5%) and achieve the foundation class requirements. The design for all foundation areas shall be based on achieving a foundation class selected from Table 3.7 in CD225 :

Highway Foundations – Carbon Footprint Saving

The use of ABG Abgrid geogrid can save up to 21% on carbon footprint compared with traditional compacted gravel highway foundation methods

Sloping roof applications

Abgrid is also used in combination with Erosaweb for sloping roof applications such as the Skelton Lake Services green roof. As part of the sloping roof designs, the Abgrid geogrid and Erosaweb geocell layers act to retain the green roof build-up and provide the necessary shear strength for the slope.

Typical Client Profile
